Trial Date: August 27, 2026
Location: Guoxin Heavy Equipment Testing Workshop
Input Feedstock: Post-industrial soft plastic films, woven packaging bags, and light combustible industrial waste
Target Output: High-density, uniform RDF-5 (Refuse-Derived Fuel) cylindrical pellets
1. The Challenge: Handling Low-Bulk-Density Industrial Light Waste
Light industrial waste—specifically loose plastic films, woven polypropylene sacks, and synthetic textile scraps—presents severe logistical and operational challenges for waste management companies and fuel end-users:
-
High Logistics & Transport Costs: Raw shredded film has an extremely low bulk density (<80 kg/m³), meaning trucks transport mostly air, dramatically driving up freight expenses.
-
Boiler Feeding Instability: Uncompressed, fluffy waste burns too rapidly and unevenly in industrial boilers, causing thermal fluctuations and clinker formation.
-
Handling Bottlenecks: Loose plastic film easily tangles in standard feeding mechanisms, leading to frequent downtime.
To solve these issues, our engineering team conducted a full-scale workshop trial on August 27, 2026, demonstrating how to turn loose plastic film waste into valuable, high-calorific alternative fuel.
2. The Step-by-Step RDF Production Process
The workshop trial verified a continuous three-stage processing route designed for continuous industrial operation:
-
Step 1: Shredding & Particle Sizing
Raw, high-tensile plastic films and light industrial scraps were first pre-conditioned through a heavy-duty industrial dual-shaft shredder to achieve a uniform particle size (30–50 mm). Proper shredding ensures smooth material flow and prevents bridging in the densification chamber.
(Note: If processing mixed municipal or commercial waste, this step is typically preceded by our automated MSW & industrial waste sorting line )
-
Step 2: Incline Conveying & Controlled Feeding
The uniform shredded plastic fluff was conveyed via a heavy-duty inclined belt feeder into the vertical ring-die feeding hopper. An automated level sensor maintained a steady feed rate to prevent overload.
-
Step 3: High-Pressure Mechanical RDF Briquetting
The shredded fluff entered our specialized vertical ring-die RDF briquetting machine. Under extreme mechanical friction and high pressure, the plastic film softened and compressed without chemical binders, extruding continuous, high-density cylindrical RDF pellets (30–50 mm diameter).
3. Trial Results & Key Performance Indicators
| Parameter | Raw Feedstock (Plastic Film Fluff) | Finished RDF Output | Performance Gain |
| Bulk Density | 60–80 kg/m³ | 650–850 kg/m³ | >10× Density Increase |
| Moisture Content | <12% | <8% (frictional heat drying) | Improved combustion stability |
| Calorific Value | 4,500–5,500 kcal/kg | 5,200–6,000 kcal/kg | Premium coal substitute fuel |
| Physical Form | Loose, entangled film fluff | Solid, dense cylindrical pellets | Dust-free, easy transport |
4. Downstream Applications & Commercial Value
The high-density RDF pellets produced in this trial serve as premium alternative fuels across multiple green energy sectors:
-
Co-Processing in Cement Kilns: Directly replaces fossil coal, lowering CO2 emissions and helping cement manufacturers meet strict ESG targets.
-
Thermal Power & Boiler Plants: High-density pellets provide consistent heat input for turnkey waste-to-energy (WtE) plant solutions .
-
Advanced Thermal Conversion: Clean, dry plastic RDF pellets serve as ideal feedstock for high-yield pyrolysis & low-temperature cracking systems to produce bio-fuel oil and syngas.
This August 2026 workshop trial validates that soft, low-density plastic waste can be efficiently transformed into high-value solid recovered fuel. Guoxin provides complete, customized solid waste processing solutions—from single shredder units to complete multi-fraction sorting and RDF briquetting lines.
